My alkaline sister Yvonne is passionate for the care and attention to detail of our site behind the scenes and is a great recipe tester which is great support for me as I finalize the details on my first alkaline cook book which is due out in Early Spring 2016. Her story is incredibly inspiring too so I included it below for you to peek at.

I look forward to sharing, inspiring and teaching!

Julie’s Journey

Who Knew? – that because of a herniated disk I would be motivated to change my diet & lifestyle radically to eat completely alkaline and some how convince my sister to join me in this journey. Eeeek-she had no idea what she was in for and nor did I. After 18 months of on and off terrible sciatica pain and despair from a lack of relief no matter what external treatment I tried, having exhausted almost every option I could from, chiro, physio, acupuncture, aqua therapy, osteopath, surgery, cortisone shots, on-line exercise programs and some serious medications for pain, I finally realized that I needed to heal from the “inside out – NOT the outside in”. This realization arrived in the way of a CT scan that I had to practically beg for. It showed my disc as unchanged from the 1st CT scan 18 mos prior with a 13 mm bulge- this is a huge bulging disc! Regardless of all the therapies, my body had not gone into action to begin repairing the bulge- it was incapable of improving the health of my disc because my inner terrain was obviously very unhealthy.

With a reference from a friend to a local alkaline lifestyle facilitator I was lead on a journey that began with a 3 day juice cleanse- really a “feast for your body”. Upon the realization of the radical shift I would have to make to my diet I felt desperate for camaraderie to be sure I would stay on track and have a support person- who better than my sister- who willingly embarked on this journey with me that neither of us knew would be so profound.

It was nearly 8 years ago we began. Initially we ate 100% alkaline leading to where we are currently eating 80% alkaline foods & 20% Acidic foods.  The results have been astonishing and the education has been life changing. I am no longer in any pain with my disc and have been pain free for 8 years now as I have eliminated all the inflammation surrounding my disc that was caused by an overly acidic body and I also stopped taking every medication I was on for pain. I lost 30 lbs that I couldn’t shake with various other fad diets which also helped relieve pressure from my disk. My energy soared & my overall well being improved ten fold leaving me free of colds & flus. My sister has lost almost 50 lbs and is on a journey to return to her pre-pregnancy figure and is almost there. She has also experienced a complete shift in her well being.

Who Knew? We began with very little idea of what we were committing to and it has completely changed our lives and we can’t help but want to shout it out all over the world. So here we are with our new blog site, sharing what we have both become incredibly passionate about. It has brought us closer together and we have the comfort of knowing that we understand each other and we both crave and want to cook the most healthy food possible for our bodies and our families. So here’s to The Alkaline Sisters .com and to inspiring you and many others to choose a healthy alkaline lifestyle that will change your life. Our goal with our blog is to share our continuing experiences, the process, ideas, recipes, products, courses and resources. We look forward to your participation, feed back and success.

Yvonne’s Journey

My name is Yvonne and my story is very different from my sisters. I grew up being more or less average height and weight. Of course compared to my sister, who was always very petite and small boned, I was the bigger sister (not older though). When I was in high school, and through my twenties, I maintained my weight around 125 – 135. I am 5’6” so this was just right for me.

As I got older, and had children, the pounds started to creep on. I began to yoyo diet. I have tried everything from Herbal Magic, Sure slim, Weight Watchers, drugstore diet pills, Isagenics, Slim fast shakes, boot camps, plus tried many others via books like the GI-Diet, Suzanne Summers Diet, etc. you name it, I have done it. I did have overall success from Weight Watchers, and Sure slim as they had basic meal plans I could easily follow for the most part, plus regular weigh ins and I did lose about 30 pounds – which took months of total dedication as I was only losing 1-2 pounds a week. But before long, I would get comfortable again, and go back to my “old eating habits” gaining all the weight I lost plus more, and then I would have to diet all over again. I was a great procrastinator and had a real hard time starting a diet, as I knew my commitment level was all or nothing and hated the thought of depriving myself of all those yummy fattening foods and drinks. This propelled the problem of my weight gain as I would eat the things I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat when on a diet.

I was 197 pounds again, and stuck. (I figured as long as I was under 200 that was OK) I was at a comfort level with my weight and although I wanted to be slimmer, I guess I didn’t really want to change anything I was doing so avoided thinking about it. I hated having my picture taken as I would have to face the fact that was actually me, and I was fat.

My children and husband bought me a WII fit for my Birthday in June of 08. I had gone to Jamaica with my husband in May, and after looking at photos, I realizing how big I looked. I thought it was a good idea to start to exercise. I am not too big on exercise. I hate to sweat. When I got on the WII, I had to create an profile of myself. My little WII that started off looking slim ballooned out and said, “You are obese!” I never considered myself obese. I was 215 pounds! I was the fattest I had ever been. You can imagine that it took a while before I faced that fat WII character again.

I went through the summer knowing I had to do something, but what? I was not very motivated. I was actually going through some depression as the economy was turning and my business was in the financial industry and things were slowing down and money was tough.

My sister was suffering from a very very bad back. She could not stand or sit for more than 5 minutes and spent most of her day lying on the floor. She had been in this terrible condition for over a year, and had gone to great length to do everything in her power to fix it to no avail.

It was September and she told me about these two sisters that she had begun to see. They tested her blood, took hair samples, and began to advise her on how she could heal her body from the inside out. The process started with a cleanse and some kind of a new diet. Our families had dinner on the Labor day long weekend, and she kept saying that this was the last binge before she started this new way of doing things. I never thought anything of it, as it was her doing it not me.

Well, the following week, she asked if I could help her do all this juicing as she was starting this detox. She said it was only for three days, and I should do it with her if I am going to help her. I love my sister, so I was happy to help her, and thought it couldn’t hurt. I had done cleanses before, and understood how good they were for you, and it was only three days. I had no intention of starting any kind of diet, nor had I even given it any thought. I went to my sisters every day first thing after taking my children to school, and juiced a feast with her daily, for three days. It was a bit of an event when I look back. I was there until mid afternoon juicing and home in time for my children after school. I made sure I took home enough juice to last me till the next morning when I would go back and help her more. It was definitely a detoxifying cleanse.

At the end of the third day, my sister told me that the next part of her program was 3 months long and would I support her and stay on it with her. I thought it was going to only be for three days! 3 months? The juicing was over, and now stage two. Hmmm…. I had just endured the hardest part she said, and she reminded me in a very supportive kind way, that I would probably lose some more weight as I had already lost some, so it couldn’t hurt. I thought, well, by Christmas it would be over and I could manage till then if it would help her. I liked my wine on the weekend and I had to give that up, but thought heck, I can do that for 3 months… I did it for much longer when I was pregnant and nursing. I agreed to do it and support her.

I had no idea of the journey I was about to embark on. Ok, no Alcohol, no meat – oh my, and then no dairy…plus eating raw… hmm this wasn’t the kind of diet I was thinking of. However, it was not a diet. It was an understanding of a different way of eating that feeds your body and gives you energy and restores your health. After I had been on the “Diet” for two weeks, we went to see Tony Robins in Vancouver. I was surprised and fascinated by his one day of health and that cemented in the facts that I was on the right track and doing the right thing. It just made so much sense to me after that weekend.

I followed it religiously, and lost 30 pounds by Christmas. I had become educated on what food does to you and that completely changed my ideas about food, not wanting to eat the old way anymore. Yes, I had some spirits at Christmas, but I never went “OFF” my diet… as I wasn’t on a diet. I had adapted a new conditioning around food and have easily managed to continue on the journey, loosing another 10 + pounds and I feel great. My little WII Character says I am over weight now instead of obese and I understand food and how my body deals with it verse counting calories and portion sizes. I learned it’s ok to zig and zag a little as long as you keep a balance and it works.

I would still love to get down to the weight I was when I got married, at 130 pounds, but this was never about weight loss. That has been a big benefit of course, and I am very glad. The bigger benefits are I feel energized and healthy. I haven’t been sick since I started, although the normal colds and flus have run through my family, I have not been affected.

I have an excellent understanding of the alkaline lifestyle and am doing what I can to implement it into my families diet as well. More importantly, my sister’s health has been a true inspiration. She is almost 100% now, and although she cautiously goes about things, she is virtually pain free and able to function normally. I am a true believer that a PH balanced body can mend itself from the inside out, and she is testament to that. I can go through life knowing that I will not die of cancer, nor any other disease. I have the cure inside of me, as the saying goes, “You are what you eat!” couldn’t be more true!

In our journey, we have developed a passion to share our knowledge with others that maybe discovering this new way themselves in hope that we can give back and add value to your life and your health!

Hi – Ive just started trying to do the alkaline way of eating. Its been 3 weeks of cold turkey from a 30 year eating disorder (bulimia) and two full weeks if not longer of trying to eat alkaline. Im very acid according to my ph in my urine. I have been doing green powders 3 – 4 times a day along with eating all veggies and staying away from acid foods. Although, I have been eating some oatmeal in the mornings. (the only thing I have gone back too) This morning I through some green powder in along with my cinnamon and few rasians. (ha ha this made me feel better about eating it). Ive actually dropped 5 pounds (which I dont want to do) but my pants are tight and I feel bloated and such. Im sure its a combination of having food in my stomach all the time and not getting rid of it, and having things that are hard to digest. Im trying to combine the rights foods in eating so it digests better. I feel like I need some help – not sure where to turn. My doctors are not much help here – they would rather give me a pill for everything. To do the alkaline diets everything is sign up and pay – and Im a little unique as I mentioned I have had bulimia for too many years. Are you up to helping me? Im trying not to be in too big of a hurry to “fix” my body… I have taken 45 years to get to this awful state. Im actually in good health (Im a runner) but my hair has been falling out for the past 7 months very bad. Im wearing a wig. Im hoping some day that my hair will stop and come back – but Im not sure. Anyway – whether my hair comes back or not Im committed to getting healthy. I feel like the Lord has directed me to your site – hope you can help me. Thanks for your time

Lisa

I am thrilled you found our site. I am so passionate about the alkaline lifestyle because it worked for me and has healed so many! I would love to support you and at this time I don’t have any programs- maybe one day! I would love to keep in touch and answer your questions and share what really seems to work for people. You are doing all the right things. The hair will stop falling but it’s the normal response of the body to shed the old toxic parts and start fresh. You won’t lose all your hair and you won’t get too thin and it will grow back better than before. Just be sure you get your protein from lots of broccoli and lots of raw veggies (I eat some wild fish for protein but that’s it) and hemp seeds, hemp milk in smoothies if you don’t like the taste. Your body weight will go where it is normal and healthy for your body. I recommend switching to spelt flakes which is very similar to oatmeal but it isn’t a stored grain so less chance of molds and it is less acidic. I posted a recipe on the site you can peek here http://www.alkalinesisters.com/whats-for-breakfast/238/ at if you didn’t see it yet. I highly recommend supplementing with vitamins and minerals and I use all DR. Youngs products on the Inner light site right here http://www.balance-ph-diet.com/alkaline_nutritional_supplement.html. The best ones are the liquid ones that go straight to your blood but I take both. If you need help here let me know. I also take the phor salts which are a forever product for me with minerals that most of us are really depleted in so it’s a daily thing like the green powder –for ever!! Happy to help!! Julie

Julie and Yvonne, what an inspirational story! I am so happy for the both of you and I do believe that your health starts from the inside out. You have inspired me both to look at my diet. I will look at the rest of your site to see what else I can learn.

Jo-Ann April 5, 2010 at 7:26 pm

Great site! Your photographs and recipes are very inspiring. Thanks for sharing both your story and all this great information.

Yvonne I can so relate to your story. We are the same height and weighed the same through out our 20’s. I actually only weighed 115 lbs. when I graduated from high school. I am older however, 58, and climbed the scales to 218 (my all time depressing high). Presently I am hovering around 206 and seem unable to budge from that. I have been researching the web for information however, on more than just losing weight. In Sept. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my spine and my hips. I was so overwhelmed and devastated. It seemed that it was such a frightening diagnosis and devastating for the future. I also was so mad at myself for my years of binge eating on sugar especially chocolate. I have been reading about the importance of an alkaline diet for your bones. I so wish you two had put together a plan of exactly what you ate and were in a position to publish and sell that info. I do have Youngs book and I guess I need to just sit down and start to work on it. The mention of drinking clay and water didn’t excite me too much however………..I thought your plan may be more feasible. If you have any information that could be photocopied and sold I would for sure buy it…….menu plans and so forth. I am sure I am A.D.D………I have such a hard time getting started on things and feel overwhelmed by it all. I could use info to just walk me through…….where to start, what to do and so forth. You may even have this on your web site and I may not have found it yet.

danielle June 21, 2010 at 3:27 pm

So glad to find your website. about 1 1/2 years ago I broke my leg walking the dog and never followed up with blood work and a bone density test. Now that I am in my early 40’s, my husband begged me to follow up. My vitamin D level was 9, very, very low. I researched and came across the book The Acid Alkaline Food Guide by Dr. Susan E. Brown and began to change my diet. I still have a long ways to go but plan on making this a way of life. I feel so much better all ready. My 17 year old son who became a vegan macrobiotic about 2 years ago and I didn’t understand it-now it all makes sense. Danielle

Julie June 21, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Danielle, Welcome to our world of Alkaline Living. I hope we can continue to inspire you with recipes and information to make your journey even more successful. Thank you for your comments and we hope to see you here often. Please hollar with any questions you may have and we will do our best to answer them. A friend improved her seriously low bone density score by over 50%- it’s totally do-able. If you don’t have a vibration machine to stand on you must get one- it’s the key to rebuilding bone density along with an alkaline diet of course. Using it 2x’s daily for 10 minutes each time is all it takes. The one I have was only $500 cad vs the commercial ones that are in the thousands. Let me know if you need more info. All the best in your journey.

Bronwyn June 22, 2010 at 10:51 am

Julie I am really interested in your vibration machine. I had totally given up on the idea of getting one when I saw the price in the $1000’s of dollars. Where did you find one for $500. I am also Canadian and so I hope you found one in Canada. Do you feel the lower priced one is of similar benefit. I have considered a mini tramp but I am concerned about that because of the osteoporosis in my spine and hips. I also have osteopenia in the other areas and as a result have an ankle full of plates and screws……..I also have a bad knee and just simply didn’t know if the mini tramp would be good because of my physical problems.

Danielle I have just ordered Dr. Susan Browns bone program. They are unable to mail to Canada so I have had it sent to my cousin in the States and she will then mail it to me. Do you use her supplements?

Julie June 24, 2010 at 11:34 pm

Bronwyn this is the link for the whole body vibration machine and it has come down in price. This company is based in Vancouver and ships to your door. http://www.ycyhealth.com/products/WholeBodyVibration/PFM002.asp
A friend of mine found great relief for her arthritic ankle with this vibration therapy. I take Dr.Youngs supplements as I believe in his products and have found them to be very beneficial and easily absorbed especially the colloidal supplement drops. Let me know how you make out.

Kim July 15, 2010 at 11:34 am

Hi Ladies! Thank you so much for your inspiring site. I’m a performer who depends on her voice and can’t afford colds and flu because then I can’t work! Whenever I was exposed to a cold, I began eating in an alkaline balanced way to get rid of it faster. After success eating this way in a temporary manner, I began to look at it more seriously as a way of life. The rest of my story is similar to Yvonne’s and I’m happy to say after my first month of alkaline balanced eating, I’ve dropped 6 pounds (many more to go, but that’s not the point). Better than that I’m feeling great. I’m turning 50 in 2 weeks and I have more energy than I’ve had in 5, maybe 10 years! I’m motivated to exercise more because I feel good about what I’m eating. I’m hoping I’ll go through the next few years with no colds or flu instead of worrying about warding them off. Thanks!

Julie July 15, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Big congrats to you! that’s amazing, we love these kinds of stories!! Have you tried a juice feast? If not see our post here for details http://www.alkalinesisters.com/juicing-and-the-feast/552/
You feel quite amazing and very clean after this! Keep up the good work Kim:)

GeeCee September 29, 2010 at 8:59 pm

Hi, I’m so glad I came across your site. I just started the alkaline diet 3 weeks ago on the advice of my ND. I also did the 2 day cleanse and feel amazingly well. I’ve had stomach issues since I was in my late teens and was diagnosed with IBS. I’m now in my mid 50’s and started developing food allergies. April of this year I was reading an article on celiac disease. It had a list of 21 symptoms and to my surprise, I had 19 of the 21 symptoms. I stopped eating foods that contained gluten and to my surprise after 1 week, most of my symptoms went away! I am now on a GF diet and eating 80% alkaline foods. I started walking for exercise and yoga for stretching and joints. I have more energy and less mood swings. I think I’m easier to live with. I now understand the power of food and what it can do to our bodies. You have inspired me to continue. Thank you.

Julie September 30, 2010 at 8:12 am

Welcome GeeCee! I am also soooo inspired by YOU. I LOVE hearing your kind of story as it really, really motivates me to continue sharing my recipes and health info. I am so passionate about this site and knowing that I am helping people like you continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle makes all the difference. You have done incredibly well, and some days it’s not easy so BIG Congrats to you!! Thank you for sharing your story here. We can both find support and inspiration in each others journey. Hope to see you here often:)

Collette October 28, 2010 at 3:30 am

Hi Ladies!
Wow! I’m so excited to read your story. I came here via Decor8 curious to learn a little more about the woman who went to Morocco. What a small world. I read the pH Miracle quite a few years ago and use to use the products and also had really terrific results from eating alkalizing foods. I don’t currently live that lifestyle but it has never left me. I totally believe in having a healthy inner terrain and have recently had a series of health issues and I know that it’s my inner terrain. I know I’m cheating myself when it comes to eating the right foods. It’s not rocket science it’s just good sense. One of the things I remember is feeling so clear in my thinking and having super energy. Anyway, no sense preaching to the choir. I’m just glad you are blogging about this. I’ve got you bookmarked. Yay!
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Young and his wife through a friend of mine who introduced me to the way of life. She was a close friend of theirs. I’ve always wanted to go to their retreat in San Diego and if I had the financial resources I’d love to send my parents. One day. I now live in Australia so that won’t be happening for some time.
Again so glad to find your blog.
Cheers! xox

Julie October 28, 2010 at 9:09 am

Collette, yay I love it when I meet people who are familiar with this whole thing cuz they really understand the benefits. At least you know what to do when you get out of balance, right? And lucky you to have met Dr. Young, envy, envy! I hope I can inspire you to pick up where you left off and regain your energetic potential!

Sandi November 1, 2010 at 5:49 pm

Wow, I am so happy to find this blog, I, like Collette found this site thru My Marrekesh/Decor8. After having shingles 5 different, consecuetive times, I started juicing. Felt better, quit taking the stupid meds the Drs always insist I take. I also have fibromyalgia, so changing my diet is a must. My body is on fire most of the time, no matter what I eat. So I WILL try the alkaline diet/foods. My problem is, I purchased SUPERGREEN capsule, and itched all night & day; and, felt like I had the flu, no energy etc. So to try this green product is scarey for me. I thank you so vry much for your blog and inspiration. Wheat of any sorts, throw me into a chronic fatigue, so I will try the spelt. Can’t wait to JUST DO IT! with your help and wealth of shared knowledge, I am on my way! Again thank you. Sandi

Julie November 2, 2010 at 8:50 am

Sandi, Thanks sooo much for your comment. I love hearing peoples stories in hopes I can inspire a better journey. My thought is this. I talk about a toxin bucket or reservoir that we have. Some of us have overflowing toxin buckets and some have a low or empty reservoir as a result of a cleaner diet. If your bucket is over flowing one most certainly is experiencing the effects of those toxins trying to escape and causing many symptoms of ill health including a very high degree of sensitivity to sometimes things that are even beneficial to our health because our systems are messed up. In an effort to empty this overflowing bucket, we need to encourage the build up of toxins to exit, slowly or quickly, leaving our body via some orifice, disturbing the settling mass. This can make one feel flu like symptoms until a good amount of the toxins have poured out, thru cold like symptoms in a mucous form or a serious flush of the colon (esp if one does a juice feast), even sometimes thru our largest organ, the skins surface. But the after results are astonishing. Vibrant energy is restored and a sense of lightness and a fresh clean feeling prevails making one rather addicted to only putting clean food back in to support the tremendous clean feeling. It seems crazy to think that just changing ones diet could be so radical but if you are experiencing extreme discomfort and symptoms like fibromyalgia you will see and feel the most effects, good and bad. However, I suggest you either tackle this new diet/lifestyle in a slow manner and introduce the new regime carefully or work with a consultant over the phone or in person to support you and guide you safely. I used a coach and it was life changing. Please let me know if you require this and I can pass on a reference for you. I am not qualified for this degree of advice at this time. With regards to the super greens capsule, perhaps the powder would allow you to slowly add 1/2 dose to your water and build up the toleration to it- perhaps you can just open up the capsule if it is the Inner Light Brand and sprinkle 1/2 of it in a liter of water and sip it thru the day and see how you do, then slowly increase your daily intake to 3-4 litres per day. Your system is just overly sensitive from my perspective and will adjust eventually, but this is what you really need- to alkalize the system so it can begin to flush that toxic bucket empty. If you don’t have a filter for alkaline water I highly recommend the prime pH drops for all your drinking water to increase your alkaline intake. The link is here if you wish. I send you strength and inspiration and offer my support to get you thru. I know you can be vibrant and healthy again if you really, really desire it but that’s the first place you need to start — with the desire! If you haven’t read The pH Miracle (on our website side bar) I recommend it as education thru this process is very powerful in helping you to understand what your body is going thru and to keep you motivated. Please stay in touch:)

Inflammation Women:

That’s me. I just had a biopsy done 2 days ago to find I have severe gastritis. As well as H pylori. My First thought was, why am I having so MANY major things go wrong with me.

The day before my surgery to get an upper Gi endoscopy I woke up to my other problem,
IC (Inter cystitis). Then I also have IBS which has caused me to be backed up for the last week, but that’s nothing new..I’m used to it..~! Nothing laxatives won’t fix. I also have a fibroid in my uterus. And, ohhhhh I’ve gone from 120 lb. to about 135 lb. in about 7 months and growing.

I’m DONE! I have a family member who is 80 years old who is healthier than I am! So, after years of him telling me about this alkaline life I figured ok I have to do SOMETHING because I’m going to die if I don’t and I’m only 45.

Today is the first day to my new future of living healthy and alkaline.

Murray has a system installed into his home which not only supplies him with 11 alkaline water, but he showers in it, brushes his teeth with it, cooks with it, you get the idea 😉
He also uses things like apple cider vinegar to clean the arteries and the plumbing he calls it lol. With that cider he adds olive oil and enjoys a healthy RAW salad. He does have a few glasses of wine though hahaha. I also wanted to tell you about silver water. Because I am SO not alkaline, and one big body of inflammation, and a bad bacteria I strongly suggest you look into colonial silver water for the benefits it too offers!

Call Mrs alkaline healthy, and not tired constantly.. I pray in about a month =)~

Wish me luck and THANKS for such a great SITE I’m all OVER IT LADIES!

Ps: Stress is a MAJOR thing in my life too, having 2 active Marines in my life isn’t easy.
One is in Afghan now and the other is barely home. So, I am praying this does wonders
as everyone I’ve read about claims!

God bless and Happy Holidays

If anyone has any OTHER ideas to help me please do so.

And I refused all the antibiotics the Doctor gave me for the H pylori, wish me luck.
( silver water has been known to kill this and over 800 other bad parasites in our body)

Julie December 1, 2010 at 10:15 pm

You go girl!! There’s no stopping you. You’re such an inspiration-thank you! This is just what your body needs to get back in order and I truly know that you will be whole again. Can I make a suggestion? This is only because you are a unique case with a few things that need attention and I know that with an expert’s advice your journey will be even more successful. I would like to recommend a fellow who is very highly educated in this alkaline lifestyle. He is a counselor either over the phone or depending where you live he can travel to you- he’s quite portable for the sole reason that many of his clients aren’t. He does a free initial call if you would like to even just do that for some peace of mind that you are on the right track. He is quite familiar with many, many symptoms and has helped numerous very ill people return to health. If you are interested please email me and I can introduce you both. I do take a silver colloidal drop in my water and it is an excellent supplement for eliminating toxins and parasites. The alkaline water system sounds great, if you need a reference for this I know the “alkaline water girl” and she’s got all kinds of options for you product wise and price wise. She ships anywhere. We don’t use vinegars as they contain fermented yeasts, fungus and molds which is something you may not want in your body quite yet so use caution here. Good on you for refusing the antibiotics if you could live with out them right now. There are better ways to improve your health in many situations before resorting to drugs depending on your circumstance. About stress, this can really undermine your success. Stress is HIGHLY acid forming. If you can find a way to get a perspective on your stresses that will allow you to have great concern but not all out stress in at least some aspects of your life it will help immensely. Considering your marines, this will be difficult, but do all that you can to take time for you to dissolve the stress the best you can. Also remember that it took a long time for your body to become sick and it has a lot of repair work to do– so it may not happen as quickly as you might like, patience is key. Pay attention to your body and really note the improvements versus some of the detoxing symptoms which happen to everyone- flu and cold like symptoms, remembering that every body is different. Alkalizing your body in the highest manner will change your life. I feel honored to have met you and am soooo excited for your journey back to health and vitality. Keep in mind that you are not alone here, you are not the only one with these kinds of symptoms to take this journey, and many have been very, very successful. Please keep me posted periodically as I would love to hear from you:) If you get discouraged, I would love to support you. All the best. Julie

Hi Julie

What a stroke of luck it was to meet you in the produce section of our local HF store!!! You were kind enough to give me your card after chatting with ken, the author. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have found your site – I’m a true believer that much of today’s illnesses are based on an overly acidic ‘diet’. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information in such a user-friendly, personal way. Your story and your sister’s are indeed inspiring and I have already shared my find with several friends who are suffering in a similar way. Thank you from all of us for this great service!!!!!!!!
I believe I heard you say you were going to publish a book??? I do hope you will – we would certainly want to purchase it.
Again, thank you so-o-o-o much; all the best, you deserve it!!!
I’ll keep in touch.
Val

Valerie, thank you so very much for stopping in and for reminding me how you found the site. I love remembering and connecting with my readers. I hope you find some yummy things here to nourish your body and that you remain healthy and energetic. It’s people like you and I that will help others to become healthy too! Keep spreading the word! Look forward to seeing you here often.

lorraine goodmanson January 25, 2011 at 2:47 pm

Hey Jules and Yvonne..wow,you two are amazing. Im not even sure how I found this but it may have been just the thing I have been looking for. I have a few health problems that I need to fix and I also have no sense of well being at all. Your stories are very motivational but also sound very overwhelming and it is hard to know where to start with such dramatic changes. Would you suggest a naturopath as a good way to start?? I have been thinking about seeking one out for some advise. Do you order all the products on line or is there a good store here in Victoria? Would love to hear what you think. Hope all is well with both your families. Lorraine

Julie January 26, 2011 at 9:46 am

Well Hello Lorraine, been sooo long! Glad to hear from you:) If you feel like you need support you can see a local consultant in person, or I have a contact who can do telephone consults. I recommend reading two books, The pH Miracle by Dr. Robert O. Young and Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Karr. The first is by a scientist and the 2nd by a cancer patient. Both are amazing and will give you tools and reasons to do things differently and follow a balanced alkaline diet that will surely cure your ailments and bring back your energy and vibrant state of health. I recommend the supplements and the super greens on the link on the left side of our site but the consultant can assist with which ones to take if you have a live blood analysis done. In this case, you would need to see the local consultant for this but it is perfect for quickly getting to the exact root of your health issues, although she has a wait list. Some of these Inner Light supplements can be found at Triangle Healing in town but not all. It’s easy to order on line if you choose-they ship to Canada on Friday mornings so submit prior for fastest delivery. I have every faith that you will turn the corner to better health now that you have discovered balancing your pH. It’s thee way to cure diseases and ailments. Please stay in touch. Let me know if you need contact info for the consultants.

lorraine goodmanson January 26, 2011 at 1:11 pm

Hi Julie, thanks for the quick response. I would really like the contact info for the consultants. I shall read the books as I wait to see the consultant. I have been glued to the website since finding it and love all your beautiful photos. I am currently cokking some quinoa for the first time for my lunch haha….hope its good! Thanks, Lorraine PS..doed the store close at the end of the month?

Jan Czerwonka January 30, 2011 at 9:26 am

I stumbled upon your website looking for a breakfast recipe for Quinoa, I had my hair analyzed and I have allergies to wheat, rye, dairy, citric fruits. Was wondering where you get your PH levels tested. I also have trouble with recurring baterial vaginosis that I have to use a vaginal cream that takes care of it for 6 or so months. Wondered if what you are doing would help? My doctors say that there is nothing that will get rid of it, I just have to either take pills or use the cream. If you have any information, it would be appreciate. Glad to hear something worked so well for you both.

HI Vallerie
I didn’t see any events in San Diego that he is doing in the near while but his link is here. Perhaps send in a question as to when he may have one that might not be published yet.
Glad you are inspiring your niece, she’s lucky you’re so up on all this healthy business:) Have fun down there, be well!

ChantelleB February 22, 2011 at 12:06 pm

Hi! I just randomly found your website while searching for a good quinoa recipe ( i made your breakfast quinoa for lunch today….super good!) Your website is quite impressive, i have always been into health foods/herbal supplements etc… thanks to my amazing mother who raised me up this way… I dont really have any health issues myself, i just like to maintain my health as much as possible…to me good health is the single most important thing in life…without good health you cant enjoy life….ive always hear about being more Alkaline etc. but didnt ever put too much thought into it….i also knew water was good for you…but didnt realized to what extent…your article about water is so informative…and that is the first change im making today…in fact ive already started with the alkaline water……i know someone who is only 27years old and suffers severely from Rheumatoid arthritis, he is in search of some sort of relief….this diet would be so beneficial for him….what are you recommendations for this?
Thank you so much ! im so glad i stumbled upon your site!!

Julie February 26, 2011 at 11:06 am

Chantelle, so glad you made it here and that quinoa is yummy isn’t it? The alkaline water is key and flushes toxins constantly reducing any build up. For the Rheumatoid Arthritis, honestly there is nothing that will work better than a switch to an alkaline lifestyle. It can practically relieve all his symptoms if he is willing. I have a friend who was a worst case scenario and she’s a picture of health after a year. Essentially toxic crystals develop in your joints, and are hard and scratchy causing pain and wheat grass will assist in dissolving these along with the lifestyle that take care of reducing inflammation and returning lost energy. He must read The pH Miracle book in the side bar of the site for a clear understanding and motivation to want to change his lifestyle.

mel June 14, 2011 at 1:06 am

wow!
I have always struggled with weight…thinking I was healthy and not understanding how I could be big!
I’m not expecting anything grand. To be quite honest I think it would take a famine to make me lose weight. My body is stubborn! BUT after being alkaline for 3 weeks…I feel better…and that’s more than anything in the world to me. I home school my three young children and I am a busy and active mum…I need health and I also need to teach it to my children.
Ill be reading your site for a while, sharing it and learning alot.
THANK YOU AGAIN 🙂

Julie June 14, 2011 at 8:40 am

Welcome Mel:) I’m soooo thrilled for you that your motivation comes from the heart and your desire to sincerely improve your health and that of your children’s. What will follow is a natural journey back to your optimal weight but you won’t be so focused on every single pound. It will just slowly melt off as you begin to feel more vibrant and energized. I strongly urge you to do a juice feast if only for a day or two to jump start your journey and feed your body what it is craving and minimize some of your old cravings. The link for the feast is right here Even if you don’t have all the supplements go ahead and juice for yourself and get them thereafter. All the best to you and keep me posted:)

I am so excited to get back into eating healthy and to have your website and all it’s lovely recipes!! I love the green smoothie! It’s seriously like dessert! Thank you for sharing all of this and please don’t stop!

trumpsahead October 19, 2011 at 4:35 pm

My story is similar – In June I developed an excruciating bout of sciatica pain due I believe to herniated disc. I am 70% improved four months later but continue in constant pain. I too have switched to a heavy alkaline diet which consists mainly of Smoothies with a banana base, then spirulina, chlorella, & wheatgrass; after that three or four veggies that are on sale. I like dandelions, romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley, and used chicory & mustard greens also. I add ten frozen grapes (I keep about 5 lbs cleaned and destemmed in freezer hoping to make it through most of the winter – frozen grapes are outrageous); tspns of sliced almonds, sunflower, pumpkin & flax seeds; one squirt of hempseed oil and tspn of coconut oil; one raw egg (cage free), 4 oz raw milk, plenty of filtered water. I usually add some spices but not necessary: cayenne, grind cinnamon, cinnamon sugar, cumin, turmeric; & tspn ice tea mix. Been loving this drink for four months and can’t imagine not having it.

I have a comment —
You wrote: “Company X manufactures chemicals for use as pesticides, herbicides etc. but cannot dispose of the yielding waste chemicals as they are too damaging to the environment- Toluene, Xylene and Benzene. Instead they find a use for them in personal body care products.”

We can all thank the FDA for that, one of the more criminal arms of govt. FDA also “allows” into our systems Aspartame, which also was borne of waste from aluminum & fertilizer manufacturing & rather than incur disposal fines/expenses they put it in sleeping American’s food products.

Flouride was used in German concentration camps now its in our water, toothpaste. In more concentrated form it is called Rat Poison.
Chlorine is on the march these days, not only in our water. Can’t recall what food product I saw chlorine used, oh yeah, Splenda: the “natural” sweetener instead of sugar. Splenda is poison, in the mfg process they break down the sugar molecules and replace one with chlorine molecule. So I suppose they get the “right” to call it natural but the chlorine inhibits absorption of calcium I think, not sure, but it is conspiratorial from my point of view. It’s bad enough in our water, now we can eat it too.
And be careful as they are changing names to some chemicals to get by the radar. Lots of MSG products have about four or five names the worst being “natural flavor” as it sounds so harmless.

Health is such an uphill battle. I can’t convince anyone they can turn their poor physical disposition around and be fit as a fiddle in one year, especially the old folks. Everyone is so conditioned/propagandized to believe that “old age” and all its infirmities is a natural and inevitable condition of growing older. This is a lie, total lie. Old age is a Disease with a capital D, and for the most part can be reversed. I am certain we can easily live to 120 or more fruitful years (well maybe not in stressful America as it is rapidly becoming a police state) if we eat a much higher percentage of raw alkaline foods on a regular basis.

This is probably your rapp as well ‘though haven’t read it yet. I, like you, cannot stop my enthusiasm for discovering, er, rediscovering on a deeper level, the benefits of alkaline foods.

Seems most healthy foods cost 3x as much as processed foods. I’m new to your website but find it mesmerizing. You are good, really good. Don’t know if you’ve written any articles on “raw milk” but would like to read some of your findings one day. That is just one more “thing”: Govt protects $50 Billion pasteurized milk industry when raw milk is actually considered a Super Food. Luckily I can buy it in New York State.

Julie October 19, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Trumpsahead, Thank you , I’m completely onside with all your comments, except I’m not convinced that dairy is meant for human consumption as it is designed for baby cows as is our mothers milk for infant humans. It is properly formulated for the purpose of accelerating and assuring proper cell growth for newborns thus it can also commence, accelerate cancer growth or if withdrawn from, stop the growth of cancer. Tests have been done to prove this- I can find the link if you wish. So I stay clear of all animal products for this reason as well as the added hormones and antibiotics to the animals that are disturbing and the mucus causing effects of milk. Hemp milk is an excellent replacement and far, far more nutritious along with almond milk, esp homemad. Don’t bother with the controversial soy milk that is most likely GMO and alters hormones.
I’m so sorry to hear about your pain that you still experience. The only other thing that I truly believe was and is instrumental in keeping me pain free (as my disc is most likely still bulging but not touching the nerve-takes a long time to heal this tough cartilage) is consistent core strengthening and muscle toning to balance the front of my body to the backside of my body, strengthen the spinal muscles and regular top notch chiropractic treatments by a “Pettibon System” practicing chiropractor (this program is incredibly comprehensive with decompression tables, wobble chairs, neck warm up stretchers, and an entire gym equipment program for strengthening the core along with home programs). Testimonials for success are endless in this program. I’ve witnessed many and I ask many patients on their success in the clinic. Otherwise, a stress reducing lifestyle and a healthy diet are key –you are already doing a fabulous job of this.
As for living a long healthy active life, yes I’ve touched on it and ranted a bit–I recommend reading Healthy at 100, by John Robbins-see this post that I wrote a while back. All the best to you, it’s been a pleasure chatting with you!

Jenn October 21, 2011 at 11:32 pm

Wow! Thank you for this blog and all the wonderful and inspirational recipes. I am a newbie alkalarian (about 6 weeks now). I was one of those “healthy” acidic gals…..exercised regularly, healthy body weight, limited alcohol and processed foods etc. I thought I felt pretty good….until my physician uttered the words ‘cancer’. I has devastated. I didn’t get why? and my Dr. couldn’t really explain it either. One week later I had live blood analysis that showed that my body was full of yeast (acid) and other nasty bits. Looking at my live blood on the screen helped me to make the connection to the cancer diagnosis. It now made sense. My blood looked like a garbage dump! (traditional medical blood test – my blood looks healthy and normal?? There are no cancer markers for malignant melanoma). The good news is that the live blood analysis practitioner ensured me that the cancer does not have to become my way of life….or death. I can, through changes in my diet, change my trajectory. I’ve driven into this mess, well I can back right out of it! This is my new hope!!
I’ve since gone on a 10 day alkaline cleanse (it wasn’t easy, I’m not gonna lie), and am continuing to eat 80% alkaline. I’m still on a huge learning curve, but am committed to this new way of eating. So this brings me back to thanking you Sisters for this site. The information and recipes are just what I need as I search for good alkaline eating habits and start nourish my body in a new way…..and cook/prepare food for my family. Two young teenagers are not easy to convince! Your delicious looking recipes give me hope as I start on my new journey. Cheers, Jenn

Julie October 22, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Jenn, I’m not sure who directed you to live blood analysis but it’s going to save your life if you use it as your measuring stick! It’s an invaluable measure as you have discovered and it tells all. You will most certainly heal your body, with or without cancer medications- not sure what route you are going combined or just food/holistic therapy. I’m thrilled for you and certainly this happened for a reason so that you were saved from the cancer reaching a vital organ and becoming near impossible or much more difficult to reverse. So glad you found our site:) Messages like yours inspire me to become even more passionate about sharing this info and recipes to make it easier and joyful to live an alkaline lifestyle. I have a teen too, so I understand. Just in case you haven’t read or been told this, an acidic body can also occur from a stressful lifestyle or underlying emotional issues, and negative thoughts- be sure you have this under control or you seek help as it is 50% of the battle! All the best to you, you’re going to be just fine! Hugs, Julie. Keep me posted!! I’d love to hear how your follow up blood analysis looks!

Hi there, Just stumbled upon your blog from Saveur.com. I can’t believe its taken me this long to find you!! It’s everything that I’ve been looking for – beautiful photos, incredible knowledge, and so aligned to my food philosophy. Can’t wait to jump into your posts. Thanks for being so wonderfully generous! 🙂

Your website is truly unique and one of a kind! Very resourceful about the importance of homeostasis and certainly supports what I have learned to be true, can’t wait to try some of those gorgeous recipes for me and my family!

Jenn December 13, 2011 at 8:53 pm

Hi Julie – Jenn here. This is my live blood analysis update you asked me to keep you posted on. My blood initially was full of crystals, odd shaped cells, debris etc. Almost 3 months later – Good News! Although I still have a significant amount of yeast in my red blood cells, the plasma- what the cells exist in, looks crystal clear and the cells themselves are much more uniform and robust looking. Definite improvements! I’m feeling more energetic than ever. Yay! I’m expecting even healthier blood at my next analysis, in a few months time…..thanks to great alkaline food and a positive outlook on life.
Love your recipes – they really help to provide the ideas to eat alkaline as a regular everyday (delicious) choice. Love that. Keep them coming!
Now I’m on the anti-yeast campaign. Looking to focus in on cleaning up the yeast in a sustainable way. Thanks for all your information and support. This is a great blog. I wouldn’t want to be on this journey without it!
Cheers
Jenn

Jenn
Thank you soooo much for the update! Way to go girl! You’re rocking the alkaline diet!! Isn’t it the best motivation to see the results of your efforts? It is so necessary to have in order to want to continue and so that you can really recognize the necessity and effects of healthy food. Can’t wait to hear about your next results.
A couple things about yeast, I consumed lots of young coconut meat and raw unprocessed coconut water as they are both high in minerals and very anti-fungal. I put them in my smoothies daily. I also made sure I had protein in every shake and at every meal. I chose vegan proteins like brazil nut protein powder, hemp and isolated hemp protein, quinoa and a wee bit of legumes, lots and lots of avocado and almonds. Also be sure to use enzymes and probiotics to help balance good bacteria and replenish and enzymes to help digest properly so yeast can’t tackle undigested goodies. I didn’t consume any sugar what so ever from any source, fruit or not. Only sweeten with stevia leaf powder, or the liquid if you can’t find powder. Caprylic acid supplement is awesome to kick candida (it’s also in the coconut meat and in coconut oil that you can also add to your smoothie). You’ll be yeast free in no time! All the best and thanks for keeping me in the loop!

jan rush December 26, 2011 at 9:36 am

Julie and Yvonne-
Glad to hear about your healing. You say you now eat 80% alkaline, 20% acid. In her book nutritionist Dr. Brown says you need 50 to 63 grams of protein a day and protein- meat, fish, dairy- is acid. Do you know how much protein food is 50-63 grams? I have acid reflux and have cut back on acid food which has helped.

Jan

Julie December 28, 2011 at 5:30 pm

Hi Jan, glad to hear that alkalizing is improving your acid reflux. I have no doubt that you can get rid of it altogether with an alkaline lifestyle. Protein IS very important as it plays a role in most of our bodily functions from cells to organs and structural membranes like bones. In fact we have a protein pool in our bodies at all times (unless we have suffered a deficiency) that our body pulls about 70% of our daily needs from while supplementing with what we provide thru our diet and then storing excesses. Dr Robert O. Young still thinks though that the food guides suggest way more protein than necessary. He says expert research indicates we need only 25 grams-just one ounce- a day of protein. Most people with avg. diets consume 75-125grams/day, 3-5x’s more than we need. Dr. Young suggests 5-7% of our total diet, daily. He equates this with this simple thought that our body is 7% protein, 70% water, 20% fat and 1-2% vitamins & minerals and 0.5-1% sugar = 100%. Mother’s milk is only 5% protein (some say as little as 1.4-2.2%) and this is designed for nourishing human growth! Mother nature has it figured out much better than the food guide does! And most people get their protein from less than desirable sources, such as typical supermarket medicated meats in which only a small portion of the (unfortunately contaminated) protein is actually truly absorbable. All foods contain proteins, just in varying degrees. A diet rich in a variety of dark leafy greens (up to 1 lb/day) and a large variety of other protein containing vegetables like avocado, broccoli, peas, spinach & artichokes provides highly useable proteins without being acidic. Some of the strongest animals in the world, the gorilla and the elephant eat no meat and consume enormous amounts of grasses and leaves yet they do not suffer from a lack of protein. However, if you are concerned about your protein intake like I am on some days, (I was low and building up my stores) I make a green smoothie with a scoop of raw whole hemp nuts and a scoop of an isolated concentrated protein powder like hemp or pea or Brazil nut (I like this one a lot but can be hard to find) mixed with 70-80% greens including avocado, cucumber, mint, kale or chard or spinach or a mixture of all 3 with liquid from a lime and a coconut or almond milk or even water then sweetened if you like with an apple or some stevia. This is one of my favourite combos and sometimes I even add berries. An awareness of ones body is very key in managing a balanced diet. Eating consciously and choosing foods that will provide ample nutrients takes thought and care. It’s easy for life to get in the way and suddenly you feel the signs of depleted protein like hair loss and brittle nails. If you weren’t paying attention this can get out of hand. I’m not saying that one shouldn’t eat healthy meats but it certainly shouldn’t be the center of every meal for there are far superior sources and…. less meat means less acidity to have to neutralize with alkalinity! It’s all a matter of balance, and the protein needs to be of a quality source, not in quantity! Thanks for your question Jan, I had fun composing this long answer. I hope it is helpful. I sourced Dr. Youngs’ pH Miracle book as I truly respect his extensive research over the past 40+ years! Cheers!

Just stumbled upon your site – wow! It’s not only so beautiful, but packed with great information. Your stories are so inspiring! I myself have been an interior & graphic designer and having changed my health, I am now coaching others on the detox journey. Excited to dive into your site and learn from you!

Monika January 2, 2012 at 8:21 am

Beautiful website, thank you for sharing. I am just starting to understand the acid/alkaline world.
Greetings from Poland and all the best for 2012!

Aubrey March 12, 2012 at 11:07 am

My mum just sent me the link to this website. I’ve struggled with a 17mm disk herniation for about a year now, after injuring myself at work, and after a lifetime of impact sports. I’m 24 and 115 lbs and the pain medications I have been prescribed have been the worst things that have ever happened to me. This injury is ripping my life, including my relationships, apart. I am going for cortisone injections next week and I have tried almost every type of therapy to improve my condition, but I have gotten to the point of almost giving up, and that is not the person I am, or have ever been.

I eat fairly healthy, with a focus on raw and whole foods, but I am willing to try a more radical food regime, and I definitely plan on trying this out. Thank you for having this website to direct people in a more natural direction that takes precedence over medication or surgery. Seeing your story gives me hope.

Christy March 13, 2012 at 11:57 am

Ladies,
I am so excited to find your website. Your stories are wonderful and inspiring. Our family is on a journey to health and healing as well. In October my husband and I stared to Paleo diet. We loved eating all the fresh whole foods and have been starting to feel better after years of filling our bodies with garbage. At Christmas we visited my mother and father in law, and she could not stop raving about this ‘Eat Clean’ thing she was doing and how she no longer was suffering from the many years of allergies she had been dealing with. We were intrigued. And then this January my sister in law was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. HER2. It was a devastation to our family as she has three small children and is only 34 years old! To make a looong story short…they have decided to forego traditional methods of treatment and are pursuing healing in her body by eating alkaline! She even flew to California to meet Dr Young at his healing centre! She is on the third week of a very rigorous cleanse. And her body is responding! Her blood is continually improving and she is testing consistently alkaline. My husband and I are astounded at the results! Time will tell how her cancer responds to her treatments but we are praying for the best. You can follow her story at her blog if your interested. newlife-anewbeginnning.blogspot.com. And now for my husband and I, we are pursuing to eat alkaline and heal the years of damage we have done to our bodies. SO far so good. Baby steps. Thank you for sharing this wonderful site!

Julie March 13, 2012 at 12:47 pm

Hi Christy, thank you sooooo very much for sharing this story for our readers to hear. I just visited your sister in law’s site and left her a message. She will be fine I truly believe. So glad to hear you are working on a healthy diet as well. A green smoothie Cheer! Pls keep me update on your and your sister in laws progress:)

Alana April 18, 2012 at 10:34 am

Hi there,

I just want to say how excited I am to find your website! I started eating alkaline about a year and a half ago. I was pretty strict at the beginning and I felt amazing! I have to admit that I have been wavering a bit in the last couple of months and I really feel the need and desire to start eating alkaline again. It is a great lifestyle to follow and my husband really enjoys it too We are now pretty much vegetarian now and I can’t believe how many beans and avocados we eat! Keep up the great blog and thanks again!

Sincerely,

Alana

Allegra May 26, 2012 at 9:31 pm

I feel way better when I eat mostly veggies!! I love meat, so I’ll probably continue eating it, although I can try cutting back a little. But I’ll tell you, my # 1 enemy is sugar! After avoiding it for a while, I can really feel the difference when I eat it now. Sugar makes me feel sick and depressed! It’s funny how we have been trained to think of fat as the worse thing ever. No, I think it’s sugar! And to think, I grew up eating soooo much sugar. And it’s very addicting. I am really trying my best to not let my 1 year old daughter eat sugar. The few times I have given her white sugar, it’s like her eyes light up and she HAS to have more. I can definitely see how bad habits start.

I can’t believe how much better I feel now that I am eating healthy, although I do feel a little bit of sadness for family and friends who have not yet chosen to change their eating habits. But I will never go back, because I know firsthand the difference diet can make. Anyway, thank you for sharing this info you have been so kind to share with us on your beautiful website! The pictures are breathtaking. The recipes look delicious. I’m always looking for new ways to eat healthy and get those veggies in!

Oh… if you have time for a few questions: Do you ever miss eating meat and dairy? How do you feel about organic/grassfeed meat? Are the sugar cravings completely gone?

julie May 28, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Allegra, thank you for your comment:) Alkalizing is about a balance of 80/20 or 70/30 alkaline to acidic if you are health and near 100% alkaline -short term- for those that are very ill. This does not restrict you from having animal protein but it is meant to create a healthy balance with an emphasis on the alkaline veggies that will help you stay healthy. Sugar is acidic and needs to be very minimal if healthy and avoided altogether if very ill. It is very addicting as you say. My strategy for avoiding white sugar is to use alternatives like stevia freely and then only dates or fruit to sweeten to replace the nasty white on occassion. Ideally you would still only have these in moderation once healthy, but having whole foods that still have the fiber intact will metabolize slowly and lessen the effects on ones blood sugar spikes. I don’t miss meat because I gradually ended up on this side of the fence with education that formed new values for me that reflect a respect for animals so I can’t bring myself to eat them. In no way do I really advocate veganism for others as it is a personal decision but I do believe that meat consumption can lead to disease so it’s also another reason I avoid it or suggest very moderate consumption. I totally advocate grass fed and hormone and antibiotic free meat and that is all I purchase for my family member’s occasional consumption. I strive to buy only organic produce but it’s not always possible so I do my best. As for sugar, I do enjoy the occasional treat but I feel in control of this indulgence, as a few years ago I did not. This control was discovered after my 3 month alkaline journey (a 3 day juice feast and a strict alkaline diet for 10 weeks)- I was amazed! If I crave anything it’s wee piece of dark chocolate after dinner:) Hope this is helpful:)

Allegra May 29, 2012 at 8:05 am

Yes Julie! That helps. Thanks!

Vanessa June 8, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Julie & Yvonne – I’m BEYOND ecstatic to find your blog!!! I was reading up on some recent Orlando blog event which mentioned you and is how I landed here. WOW! I have been on a journey of eating vegan for the last year. While I’ve made many strides, eating more alkaline foods has been daunting to me. For me, I’ve found info is hard to come by. I just love the beautiful pictures here and everything looks amazing – I seriously can’t wait to start cooking your recipes. Thank you so much for sharing your passion. You’ve inspired me!

Awe Vanessa, you made my day with your kind comment! So glad you landed here! Excited to help you with more healthy recipes. Just remember your balance is good around 70% alkaline foods to 30% acidic foods each day, preferable at each and every meal. So you can have acidic foods but do your best to balance that intake:) Thanx for stopping by:)

Beth June 16, 2012 at 6:40 pm

Julie, did you really have a herniated disk or was it bulging? Love your blog and find it very inspiring-which I need right now. I have been suffering with severe pain from a herniated disk for two years; I did it working out with my trainer which sucked. I also have a bad foot injury & the combination has kept me inactive for a year. I love exercise and miss the gym and being active. I am a 2 time cancer survivor and went through chemo and radiation twice. The pain from my back and foot is worse!!! I love Kris Carr and already juice but am not totally alkaline. I still eat meat (organic) white rice, lots of fruit and coffee every day but little to nothing processed. But If it really worked for you with your disk I am ready to try it–the back pain is excruiating. Thanks for sharing your story…and hope!

julie September 22, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Beth, not sure if you began alkalizing but it truly worked for me and it was a huge bulging disc. I also do decompression on a decompression table with a therapist and use a fabulous chiropractor.

Hi Vanessa and Julie , I am a colon cancer survivor who is so grateful to have found this site. I am just starting to educate myself to the Alkaline way of eating . I would like some advice on what to eat when I go out to eat ,I am grateful for any advice. Thank you both so much for putting yourselves out there ,I am happy to know your just an e mail away. Thanks again

julie September 22, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Hi Vanessa I love to have the yummy veggie side dishes and a salad and I’m happy:) I don’t eat fish but when I did I would have a small piece with a salad. If I were you I would monitor my blood with a live blood analysis to keep tabs on the health of my blood to ensure the cancer doesn’t’ sneak back up on you. Stress and emotional well being also play a huge role and can contribute to the return of cancer even tho you eat healthy. Don’t harbour emotions and deal with trauma if there is any in your history. Sorry so tardy answering:(

Debby July 4, 2012 at 7:08 am

Dear Julie,

I’m very glad I stumbled upon your website. I have been suffering from lots of infections lately and I am looking into changing my body’s PH levels. I’d love to know more about your 3 day juice cleans you did when you started changing your eating habits. Can you tell me what the juice cleanse consisted of?

admin September 22, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Hi Debby the juice feast is out lined here

Cadie July 10, 2012 at 1:11 pm

Julie, reading your story was such an inspiration to me. I, too, have had years of back pain, which have led me to seeking a healthier lifestyle. I always thought I was healthy….I don’t drink pop or eat junk food, I don’t smoke and rarely drink, and I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. I suffered from several years of lower back pain that progressively got worse last year. For months I had sciatica that caused a stabbing pain in my butt, shooting pain in my leg, and numbness in my foot. I went after every possible therapy: chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, orthobionomy, exercise and stretching, epidural injections, and finally a lumbar microdiscectomy. I had the surgery last July…. I’m doing better, but the pain is still not gone. I have constant lower back and hip pain. I never thought an acidic diet could have anything to do with this, so you’ve opened my eyes to a new way of healing the body from the inside out. I recently read Kimberly Snyder’s The Beauty Detox Diet, and loved it. Now I’m looking into going to school for nutritional therapy and I’m starting a new blog to document my journey. Thanks for sharing your story….your website is gorgeous and you and your sister are doing a great service for those of us who want to learn! Many blessings to you!

julie July 11, 2012 at 11:50 pm

Awe Thanx Cadie for sharing your story and saying hello. So glad you stopped in:) Good luck in your journey. I’m so excited to almost be a certified holistic nutritionist. Any questions about it let me know:)

Cadie July 19, 2012 at 9:52 am

I’d love to hear more about your schooling. Where do you go? Are the classes online or in person? Any tips on finding the best program for you?

julie July 28, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Cadie, I attended IHN, Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Vancouver, there is also a Toronto campus. However, if you don’t live near these the IIN, Institute of Integrated Nutrition is an on-line program that I understand is also very good too if you are open to that type of learning. Good luck:)

Barbara Allan July 19, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Wow, it’s great that you both have experienced such profound changes in your health from changing your diet! Eating an 80/20 alkaline diet was important for me too. Arthritis, like many diseases, is a disease of acidity. Part of what healed my arthritis was, what I call, the “heal everything diet.” The basic principle of this diet is to maintain the alkalinity of the body so it can heal itself. Keeping my body alkaline helped to reduce my inflammation and pain, much like Julie’s herniated disk. Thanks for sharing your stories.

julie July 28, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Barbara, thanx for your comment, you hit the nail on the head, or should I say the disease on the head! Dr. Robert O. Young says, :One disease is all disease” and alkalinity is the key to solving it. So pleased to hear your success, thank you for sharing with our readers:)

vic July 24, 2012 at 5:24 pm

Hi, I just want to know, when we cook our green veg do we steem it for best results? I don’t understand the term raw foods or does that mean we can’t cook or steam our veg? Can sum1 please explain! Thank you. And just to add I’ve got a lower back problem for the past 3months now and a really bad tickly cough for the past 6months. I bought loads of organic herbs such as spirulina, wheat grass, chlorella, barley grass, kelp, bee polin, stavea, hemp seeds and many more, I’ve only started my alkaline diet 2weeks ago but I do still eat chicken but I try and alkalize my chicken tho lol. I soak it in organic ph7.8 alkaline water with organic lemon juice and organic see salt, and I leave it to soak up in my chicken lol. But I can honestly say I don’t cough as much but I do still have a lil cough now and then but nothing like how it was before and my back pain isn’t as bad. So I guess the alkaline diet is working and I’m only on week 2.

julie August 31, 2012 at 10:47 pm

Wow Vic, interesting way to handle the chicken:) I usually suggest eating alkaline foods in a 70-80% ratio alongside the chicken which is acidic in nature. ie-this might include a big green salad and some steamed broccoli. Raw veg means heating them up to only 118 degrees f. – this is usually done via dehydrating or blending with a Vita Mix Blender to gently warm. Cooked means warming beyond this temperature. I recommend either, but cooking needs to be done minimally by quickly steaming or stir frying to avoid completely damaging the enzymes and heat sensitive nutrients for as much of your cooked foods as possible. I do eat some foods that are cooked more so, but in moderation of course. As for your cough, you must still have too much acidic food in the diet causing excess mucous and toxins that want to escape. I recommend staying away completely from all sugar natural or refined including fruit as well as all dairy, grains and starchy veg for a few days or longer. Drink lots of water, 3-4 liters per day and take a good multi vitamin and eat your greens- juice, steam, blend and you will probably see a huge improvement! I tend to skip the algae greens (spirulina & chlorella) and stick with grass greens as I prefer not to eat fungus from a pond. Yeast, fungus and mold are detrimental to our health so I avoid them when ever possible yet are ever present in foods from mold in fermented foods to yeast in many, many foods besides just bread. Let me know how you are feeling now.

Paige September 6, 2012 at 6:21 pm

Great site. I am, like the other readers, very happy to find your site. I have been on an alkaline journey the last 3 1/2 years and love finding others who are on this path. I was in an health crisis and a friend handed me a product they were not interested in. When my energy, focus and health started to change I had to know what “this” was all about. Alkalinity was the key to the new found success. Alkalizing and detoxing our lives is invigorating to say the least. I look forward to reading more and getting to know you.

julie September 12, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Paige, well why not? I’d give it a whirl especially if you had some nice local fresh ones! Let me know how it is:)

Cheers Jimbo 🙂

Shannon Jones October 28, 2012 at 7:42 am

Hello Ladies, I am so excited to have located your site. I have been struggling with Interstitial cystitis ( IC ) a serious bladder disease. It has left me almost completely bed bond. The disease has progressed to the point my specialist are really wanting me to look at having the bladder removed. Mortified to say the least! I have to follow a low acidic diet already so making the complete transition over I hope it will not be that bad for me. I am very excited. Besides that do I have to lose at this point? Well… besides a bladder. :/ So any pointers will be welcomed. I am using this first week to gather and prepping week. And the following I am on my way. Wish me luck and please know I may post some ridiculous questions.

Thanks,

Julie November 6, 2012 at 10:16 am

Oh Shannon, so sorry to hear but I KNOW that you can beat this with that spunky attitude and an alkaline lifestyle! You go girl and let me know how you are making out today as I bet you are making waves and swatting that bladder issue away! I highly recommend drinking these super greens All….day….long….! They are amazing for flushing the bladder and will almost on their own be the answer to your healing, I can’t say enough about them but if you don’t have ’em, get ’em! for sure along with the alkaline drops if you don’t have alkaline water! Good luck and Keep me posted:)

Kristen December 1, 2012 at 11:08 am

Hi! I found your website by looking around online about the alkaline diet. I am thinking about making this change to my diet because I suspect I am having issues with my hormones, which I believe is affecting my ability to conceive. After my doctor couldn’t find any reason why my cycles were between 45 and 70 (!) days long I started going to an acupuncturist on a weekly basis. I do feel that the treatments and supplements have helped my cycle, in addition to his recommendation of reducing intake of fruit and cutting out sugar and flour. I think I am ready to take it to a new level. It seems a bit daunting, but I am hoping I can do this and have a positive outcome. Thanks for sharing what you have gone through. If you have any tips or advice for me I would greatly appreciate it!

admin December 28, 2012 at 11:33 pm

Kristen, yay you found us! This will change your life, I highly recommend feeding the body with alkalizing foods in order to balance and get your system back on track with your cycles. Your body, hormones and all is probably out of balance. The acupuncturist has got you on the right track, yay! I also suggest daily green smoothies action packed with healing and building foods like: protein powder like hemp or brazil or sunflower- not whey-, as well as omega oils like a fish oils or udo’s oils, avocados, kale, fresh mint, swiss chard, lemon, coconut water hemp seeds, and some berries or a small apple. I sometimes just sweeten with stevia to avoid all sugar. This is just a rough list of things that are often in my smoothie but it is so full of goodness. You can also get a clear picture of your nutrient requirements by having live blood analysis done as well as a hair analysis done. Then you will know exactly how to balance and you can monitor your absorption of the nutrients and supplements as well since you could have compromised digestion or assimilation and not even know it. I highly suggest this route esp if your clock is ticking! as it is so effective and definitive. All the best and keep me posted:) Ps. get Dr. Young’s book, The pH Miracle,-revised version- knowledge is power and we all need to be in the know when it comes to our own bodies!

Catherine December 23, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Hi Julie.. Came upon your website by searching for a solution for my acid reflux and heartburn. It seems I am experiencing this every night after one or two hours after dinner.. and it is getting me down. So today I started with a green juice drink for breakfast and for lunch had broccoli rabe with sesame oil, steamed.. and tonight will have the quinoa salad.. (until I can go shopping for the recipe ingredients). So far so good.. haven’t had a sign of reflux or heartburn…Any input you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks for your website.. it is wonderful! Love the recipes.

Catherine, you are doing the right thing drinking green juice and alkalizing the body. Keep up the good work. I highly recommend these pHor salts to further alkalize the body. Hope you continue to feel better.

Yvone and Julie, I am so excited to find this web site. It is a God sent to me. I was searching for information on healthy living and I listen to a video and after she finished there was a charge. I thank you all so much for caring enough for your fellowman to share the good news. This is so awesome and keep up the good work. I am having some heealth issues and I know that the body is suppose to heal itself, but I didn’t know what all I needed to put in my body to help my body heal. Thanks for being my helper. Thanks, and again I say thanks.

marcy r. January 17, 2013 at 6:31 am

.Any suggestions how to turn a family of 7 all-American eaters into healthier ones? We eat meat rarely, but are hooked on cheese, bread, cereal. We do eat salad and broccoli in large amounts. Kids want nothing to do with “gross” foods like tomatoes, juiced greens, etc. and will be virtually unable to give up sugar.
I welcome suggestions! I fear that we all just need to go cold turkey and purge all bad foods, including the seemingly “good” ones(breads, cereal)Otherwise I am not sure it can be done. I do not have the willpower to do it alone, as I am home with the children all day and will eat “their” foods if I am preparing them.
Thanks for a great blog!
Marcy

admin January 17, 2013 at 10:01 am

Hi Marcy R. Well… I know it’s a tough thing thing to do but I chose to go cold turkey and educate my gang but I was in pain and they could see this so it was a different situation. However, it can be done. If I were you what I would do is watch a film or two to get them thinking and have a discussion (some of your kids may be too young but essentially they are a little easier to sneak healthy things in on depending on their age). Sick, Fat and Nealy Dead is a good one to watch (Netflicks offers a free viewing for first timers) to understand about healthy food and where the bad stuff can lead you. Food Inc. is another documentary and there are others depending on how much you want to dig in. One day I just cleaned out the pantry and freezer (gave the frozen away) and put most of the dry/tinned goods in a locked cupboard for an earthquake kit! I hope we never have an earthquake, the kids are hoping otherwise, lol! It’s been a long journey, it took almost a year to get the kids to drink green juice and green smoothies but I was persistent and got them involved making ones they liked with a bit of cucumber to start etc. but it’s been almost 3 yrs that they have been drinking them (they ask for green juice every morning now-Where’s my green juice?) and we haven’t been to a doctor since we made the shift! As hard as it is, it is what’s needed to save your family! If not, they are headed for diabetes as children for sure, that’s a given, and some form of cancer at a very young age, most likely. It’s scary but it’s true! The sugar is the worst! As hard as it may seem you must dump the white refined sugar somehow. Replace it with other healthier sweeteners like stevia (1 drop is like almost a tablespoon- if used incorrectly it will not go over well- it has a bit of an after taste- I tend to balance it with say a little maple syrup or honey to help cut the amount on these sweeteners as stevia is an herb and doesn’t affect blood sugar levels. Eventually, you will only use these kinds of sweeteners and fruit and you will notice big behavioural changes in your kids. As for gluten free, don’t be too fooled by all the gluten free stuff. It’s best to just cut back on your bread and find other alternatives like nuts and seeds and fruit and use sprouted grain wraps (still gluten but way better but there are rice wraps available too) for sandwiches instead. The gluten free stuff is full of sticky starches that aren’t that much better in your body- glue on the outside of the body = glue on the inside! I prefer to use kamut or rye or spelt (as long as gluten isn’t an allergy) in place of all the gluten free as a treat instead of using all those crazy flour combinations full of starches. I also love almond or coconut flour for baking, these work nicely for recipes with eggs for muffins or pancakes-just google. I haven’t had that much time to experiment and I don’t use eggs so it’s harder for me to achieve the best results, I’m trying tho! You can do it, I know you can, it may be the most difficult feat of your life but it’s your responsibility to raise health kids so they can continue the cycle with their own families. That’s why I did it. I managed to catch my 16 yr old just in time, he’s now 20 and he knows how to eat and cook healthy even if he doesn’t do it all the time! That’s the best reward ever! Good luck and keep me posted or hollar with any further questions:)

Melanie January 17, 2013 at 7:57 am

Dear Julie & Yvonne,
I was quite intrigued to find your website through searching for recipes on another website. ‘Alkaline’ caught my eye, and I have been stuck reading here! I am an ovarian cancer survivor of 2 years with no relapse. Praise God! I had a surgery, but chose to use alternative treatment instead of the recommended chemotherapy. I have been following an alkaline diet for 2 years, and have never felt better in my life. I also eat gluten free, sugar free, and meat free, except occasionally, fish. Do you have any recipes that are gluten free? I also juice green veggies, and try to drink 3 glasses a day. I still seem to have trouble keeping my PH at a good place. I check my PH daily, and often I wonder what is keeping it low. Any suggestions for low PH?

admin January 17, 2013 at 10:21 am

Hi Melanie, be sure to take a look at your balance of alkaline foods vs acid on a daily basis. To increase your alkalinity daily I suggest the pHor salts (comes as a capsule too) and the super greens both of which are highly alkalizing and are my forever cornerstone products that I use daily that really boost your alkalinity and help to buffer acids and dump toxins from daily life ie environmental, stress and any diet related toxins. It sounds like you are doing the right things, good for you and congrats on beating the cancer, you will be fine if you continue as well as manage your stress, emotions and get regular exercise. I prefer to use kamut or rye or spelt (as long as gluten isn’t an allergy) in place of all the gluten free as a treat instead of using all those crazy flour combinations full of starches or I eat them whole like a rice. I also love almond or coconut flour for baking, these work nicely for recipes with eggs for muffins or pancakes-just google. I haven’t had that much time to experiment and I don’t use eggs so it’s harder for me to achieve the best results, I’m trying tho! Also, remember your first pH urine test of the day will be dumping all acids from the previous day so also check your 2nd urine to see where you level off and this will give a clearer picture of where you are resting with your pH. Let me know how you do here:) Good luck and thanx for stopping by:)
